Barbarian army project: part 1

First post after a 3 year break.

In the nineties, I used to be a big fan of the Barbarian faction in the universe of the Leviathan Wargame.

Now I have decided to collect and paint a warband that will be somewhat inspired by the background of this faction.

I would like this warband to be playable in 2 games: Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and Saga: Age of Magic. The challenge will be to find a modular basing solution that can allow me to comply with base size requirements of both games. This is not an issue for infantry models but it will be tricky for cavalry, chariots and monsters.

Today I would like to show you the miniatures I have painted so far (I started on April 1st, 2020).

1st picture: 4 heroes bought in the nineties (from left to right: Grenadier; unknown brand; plastic model from a boardgame; unknown brand).

2nd picture: 10 archers bought in the nineties (Citadel archers from the Battlemasters MB game).

3rd picture: 13 warriors made by Brigadier/I-Kore for Celtos.

4th picture: a group shot of all miniatures from the previous 3 pictures.

5th picture: 3 barbarians by Scotia Grendel.

6th picture: a group shot of all miniatures painted so far.

Next on my painting desk: a few more Celtos warriors, then some cavalry (giant boar riders) and chariots from ScotiaGrendel.

Cheers

One Page 40k: games 7, 8 and 9.

One Page 40k: games 7, 8 and 9.

Game 7: my 30k World Eaters vs Forgefathers

Both armies used Space Marine rules.
Scenario: Breakthrough

Deployment: Space Marines 30k World Eaters (in white and wlue) on the left / Forgefathers (in orange) on the right.

World Eater scouts took position in the bunker at the center of the battlefield:

Forgefathers starting the battle in cover:

The dreadnought is waiting at the edge of the woods.

After getting shot at by the Foregather scouts, he decides to charge them and crushes them under his power fist.

World Eater scouts advance toward enemy lines:

The flyer comes in and shoots at the Forgefathers:

But a lone Forgefather with a plasma gun manages to take down the flier !

Forgefather terminators teleport in the opposite deployment zone

Both armies end up scoring a similar amount of points.

Game 8: my 30k World Eaters vs Enforcers.

Both armies used Space Marine rules.
Scenario: Sabotage.

The World Eater flyer rushes to the enemy relay marker and deploys two squads.

Meanwhile the enforcer flyer approaches the relay marker defended by World Eaters and deploys one squad of enforcers, who get slaughtered by the defenders.

The land raider crosses the battlefield to destroy the enemy relay marker.

And survives the missiles sent by the enforcer flyer. Victory for the World Eaters.

Game 9: my 30k World Eaters vs Forgefathers

Both armies used Space Marine rules.
Scenario: King of the Hill

Deployment:

This time forefather scouts took position in the central bunker.

World Eaters advance toward their enemies.

Deep striking World Eaters make a surprise attack from the back of enemy lines.

Surviving Forgefathers get hunted.

Forgefather terminators come to the rescue... but too late.
Another victory for the World Eaters.

One Page 40k: games 5 and 6

Played two more games of this new favourite game.

Game 5: my Space Marines against some Imperial Guards (1000 pts each, Duel scenario).

I won by a large margin. I think I was slightly advantaged by the scenario, and my deployment helped a lot (concentrated on one side of the table).

Imperial Guards are very weak against Space Marines (5+ quality vs 3+ quality makes a huge difference). Ogryns were quite scary however.

Game 6: my Space Marines against some Sisters of Battle  (1000 pts each, Duel scenario).

I lost by a large margin. The army list of the Sisters was quite scary (even before the game begun), with lots of tanks (4), lots of heavy flamers, and special rules granting temporary boosts.

My only satisfaction was to destroy 3 of the tanks. In the end I was almost tabled (my only remaining figure was a dreadnought, sitting on one wound).

Some pics now.

A Land Speeder patrolling the outskirt of an abandoned city.

Land Raider slowly advancing towards the main road.

Imperial Guards deployed on top of the warehouse.

Space Marine scouts hiding in the electrical hut.

Scouts come out of their hideout and fire at Imperial Guards.

Imperial Guards are pinned.

 Land Raider engages enemy troops.

Ogryns come out of their transport and attack the Land Raider.

The Land Raider replies with its heavy flamers.

Jump Pack squads appear in deep strike.

Sniper ratlings are a persistent threat from their ideal vantage point.
