Deployment:
Right side: Elves
Left side: Humans with Dwarf allies
Center of the battlefield: Dwarf and Human infantry facing the Elven Palace Guards and Elven Archers who took position behind the river. Will the Dwarves and Humans run fast enough to reach the Elves without being skewered ?
Dwarfs and Humans start running down the hill toward the Elven archers.
The Elven Palace Guards decide to intercept the Dwarf Horde before it can threaten the Archers.
But the proud Dwarfs are victorious after a bloody fight.
Arrows start raining from the sky as the horde of Archers opens up on the Human infantry, with the blessing of the Elven Priestess. The Human Foot Guard is slaughtered before it can reach the river.
Human right flank: Human cavalry facing Elven Knights. Who will get to charge first ?
Human knights get to charge first the Elven knights who impetuously challenged them; the humans are victorious.
Then they proceed to attack a ballista, on which they inflict 21 wounds in one round... but roll double 1 on the nerve test and fail to rout the crew !
Human left flank: the Scouts rush forward to challenge the other regiment of Elven Knights.
They sadly underestimated the strength of the charging Elven archers. The battle ends early for the Scouts.
The same knights then slaughter the human riflemen on the hill, and then charge the dwarfs who had just finished killing the palace guards.
But crossing two rivers had exhausted their horses, and they ended up getting slaughtered in close combat by the Archers, in a remake of Agincourt (bloody archers !).
The game lasted seven turns, and ended up being a tie. If it had stopped at 6 turns, I would have probably bagged my first victory... but I will need to wait a bit more.
Game 3: Ratkin vs Elves.
After routing the humans, the proud elves thought they had cleared the land of any foe. They set up camp near the battlefield where they had won a decisive battle. Some reinforcements arrived, notably their prince Galador riding a fierce red dragon from the Misty Mountains. Galador and his captains started discussing the next steps of their campaign to clear the land of Ilandia. The night was dark and the elves did not sleep well. They were disturbed by a shallow crunching noise the origin of which they failed to locate. It intensified in the early hours of the morning, with a vague impression that the earth was vibrating. Some thought that a volcano was going to erupt in a nearby island. Then suddenly the sound and vibration stopped.
Silence ensued.
Lasting for several long minutes.
Galador ordered his troops to be ready to depart and leave this weird place.
Then suddenly, a few hundred meters away from the gathering eleven army, a huge hole appeared in the field. As if a giant mole had just gone back to the surface to catch a breath. But no mole appeared. Instead, a sea of ratmen erupted from the hole and marched toward the elves. They would have to fight for their lives one more day.
The Prince on his dragon takes position next to his Palace Guards, in the center of the battlefield.
The ratkin had come in large numbers. And they had brought with them some giant mutant rat-fiends and some crazy Rat Brutes.
In a cunning move, the ratmen concentrated their army on their right side of the battlefield, facing the eleven cavalry, but staying away from the red dragon.
The ratkin rush forward like a wave, and the eleven knights feel they have no choice but to charge.
But by doing so, they expose their vulnerable flanks to the hungry mutant rat fiends and the doom machine.
A first regiment of knights falls, and the second one looks doomed to the same fate.
The archers on the hill try to stop the Mutant Rat Fiends...
And only succeed at making them more enraged. One of them charges the archers on the hill.
Meanwhile, on the left flank of the ratkin army, the red dragon and the elite infantry charge the Rat Brutes.
One of the rat brutes tries to break the jaw of the dragon, thinking it would make a great trophy... but ends up seeing his hands disappear in fire and smoke. Without hands, fighting turns out to be tricky, and the Rat Brute does not survive long. His mates also get chopped by ranks of halberds.
Afterwards the red dragon tries to help his knights and flies toward the rear of the ratkin army. He attacks another mob of Rat Brutes.
And is victorious once again (I hate this dragon).
The ratmen infantry turn around to face the flying monster.
A bloody fight ensues (too bloody to show you pictures), which is once again won by the dragon.
In the end, the dragon is charged by a Mutant Rat Fiend, which proves to be a harder nut to crack. The Mutant Rat Fiend strikes some severe blows to the dragon, which is waivered. Suddenly, Cortex, general of the ratkin army, sitting on the back of the Mutant Rat Fiend and controlling his moves through neuro implants, decides it is time to take a leave and raise another army to seek revenge from the elves. The Mutant Rat Fiend activates the drilling tools fitted on his arms and disappears in a hole in the ground.
The elves had won another battle, but they had lost the "fine fleur" of their cavalry in this surprise attack by the ones who live under.
And the Prince had a gut feeling that he would have to fight these manimals again.
To be continued...
